#IMVISIBLE: Minority Mental Health Awareness - Jade Stanley

Who are you, in your own words:

I am a light-skinned black woman originally from New York. I am a light-skinned black woman originally from New York. During my childhood my mother and I struggled financially. By the time I was in middle school we lived in a homeless shelter. I like to mentor young women and men to help them overcome their poverty cycles.

What mental health conditions/issues did you (or do you) struggle with? How did you overcome?

I struggled with Anxiety. I went through therapy to learn reframing and cognitive thinking techniques.

What is 1 piece of advice that you would give your younger self?

That it's ok to be different. Being unique is a true gem.

Tell us a song that resonates in your life.

Reach - Rachel West

Have you ever spoken up about your mental health (to a friend, family member, therapist)? If Yes, tell us about how that worked out. If No, tell why you chose to keep that private.

Yes, I have. My mother suffers from manic depression and my Sister has schizophrenia.

Share anything else you'd like to inspire teens and adolescents around the world who struggle.

My message is that your ‘past doesn’t define your future’.
